FAQ's

How does my child join the team?

Contact us by email, waynedolphinsswimclub@gmail.com to set up an appointment and have our coaches evaluate your child.  You'll check in at the registration table, and your child  can change in the locker rooms.  We'll have your child swim a few  lengths of the pool instructed by one of our coaches. If your swimmer  moves forward with the team, we'll have you fill out the registration  paperwork and provide payment at that point. Note: your child will  not stay and practice the day they try out, for insurance purposes, they  will be able to swim on the following day of scheduled practice.

What's the cost to join the team and what forms of payment do you take?

The  cost is $150 per each swimmer, and $130 per additional swimmer in the family for the fall and winter seasons. We take checks, money orders and cash. Please make checks  out to "Wayne Dolphin Swim Club"

Our spring/summer season is split into 2 sessions. If you plan on just swimming in the spring or summer session, the cost is $80 each swimmer. If you plan on swimming in both sessions of the season, the cost is $150 per each swimmer, and $130 per additional swimmer in the family.

The first season your child joins, there is a $25 AAU fee. This is a yearly fee that will be charged with fall registration.

When do we practice?

Fall, Winter & Spring Seasons

We  practice Monday - Friday evenings. The younger and newer swimmers  practice 6:30-7:30PM. The older swimmers from 7:30-9:00. The coaches  will tell you what session to attend at tryouts, but typically it's 12  and under (and newer swimmers) in the earlier session and 13 and up in  the later session.

Summer Season

We hold two practice sessions during the summer. The morning sessions are 13 and up from 7- 9AM, and 12 and under is from 9-10:30AM. The evening sessions are 12 and under from 6:30-7:30PM and 13 and up is 7:30 to 9PM.

The schedule will vary depending on pool and coach availability and is subject to change. We post the up to date schedule on our website, and send out weekly email reminders and texts.

Do you have meets?

We  do compete in meets during all of our seasons, but have championships at the end of the Winter and Summer seasons.  We compete against other teams in the Downriver Swim League, some meets are at home and some are away.  Meets are typically once a week and start after we've had a chance to practice  a few weeks. We will ask for one parent to volunteer at least once with timing or writing ribbons during our home meets.  (Don't worry, it's  easy, we show you what to do, and you get a great seat for the meet!)

Do all the kids compete in swim meets and what should I expect for newer swimmers?

Yes,  all the kids will compete in their age group.  Sometimes the coach may mix gender and age groups where appropriate.  The meets will have a stroke theme, sometimes they are freestyle/backstroke or freestyle/fly for example. All swimmers will swim at least twice, up to four times depending on age and experience.

What if I have to miss a practice or meet?

It's  not a problem to miss a practice, no need to call anyone. We do ask if you are going to miss a meet that you cross your child's name off the meet list. These are posted on the bulletin board at the pool prior to a  swim meet.  We also have several kids that do other sports at the same time, and that's fine too.

Do I need to purchase a team suit or anything else for practice or meets?

We do have team suits available for purchase, but you do not have to purchase one unless you want to.   Click here for more information about all the merchandise that's available. Your child will need to come to practice with an appropriate swimsuit, a towel and  googles.

Are there any fundraising requirements?

We have one annual fundraiser during our Winter season called the marathon swim. You may opt out of doing the fundraiser with a $50 opt out fee.

Other fundraisers are run throughout the year, but are not mandatory.
