The Wayne Dolphins is a program that offers 3 sessions – fall, winter and spring/summer. The fall season runs from September to November, winter runs from mid-January to March and spring/summer runs from May to July. Our fall season is a conditioning season where we typically have no meets, however we do compete against other areas clubs in age group competitions during winter and spring/summer.
We’re always looking for new swimmers between the ages of 5-18 in Wayne-Westland and the surrounding areas. We have swimmers from Westland, Wayne, Garden City, Belleville, Romulus, Livonia and Canton and welcome swimmers from other nearby communities.
If interested in joining the team, please come and tryout. We will be holding open tryouts from Monday May 12th through Thursday May 15th from 7:30 to 8:00 pm and by appointment after May 15th. The coaches will evaluate your swimmer. No need to sign up or fill out any paperwork.
Please be prepared to swim a few lengths of the pool, bring a suit, googles and a towel. There are locker rooms available to change in.
Once your swimmer successfully completes the tryout, we'll have you fill out paperwork, pay for the session, and instruct on which practice session should be attended - your swimmer can start practice the following day/practice. Payment is by cash or check.

Contact us by email, waynedolphinsswimclub@gmail.com to set up an appointment and have our coaches evaluate your child. You'll check in at the registration table, and your child can change in the locker rooms. We'll have your child swim a few lengths of the pool instructed by one of our coaches. If your swimmer moves forward with the team, we'll have you fill out the registration paperwork and provide payment at that point. Note: your child will not stay and practice the day they try out, for insurance purposes, they will be able to swim on the following day of scheduled practice.
The cost is $150 per each swimmer, and $130 per additional swimmer in the family for the fall and winter seasons. We take checks, money orders and cash. Please make checks out to "Wayne Dolphin Swim Club"
Our spring/summer season is split into 2 sessions. If you plan on just swimming in the spring or summer session, the cost is $80 each swimmer. If you plan on swimming in both sessions of the season, the cost is $150 per each swimmer, and $130 per additional swimmer in the family.
That's okay! We offer Dolphins Jr. swim lessons that are specifically designed to teach kids K-4 the skills needed to join the team. Our older high school Dolphins teach the classes, supervised by our coaches. The intent behind this program is to have the kids tryout and join our team in the future. We are proud to say that we've had several Dolphin Jr. alumni join the Dolphins! We're hoping to be able to start these up again soon!
We practice Monday - Friday evenings in the Winter season. The younger and newer swimmers practice 6:30-7:30PM. The older swimmers from 7:30-9:00. The coaches will tell you what session to attend at tryouts, but typically it's 12 and under (and newer swimmers) in the earlier session and 13 and up in the later session.
The schedule will vary depending on pool and coach availability and is subject to change. We post the up to date schedule on our website, and send out weekly email reminders and texts.
We do compete in meets during our winter and spring/summer seasons, our fall season is a conditioning season. We compete against other teams in the Downriver Swim League, some meets are at home and some are away. Meets are typically once a week and start after we've had a chance to practice a few weeks. We will ask for one parent to volunteer at least once with timing or writing ribbons during our home meets. (Don't worry, it's easy, we show you what to do, and you get a great seat for the meet!)
Yes, all the kids will compete in their age group. Sometimes the coach may mix gender and age groups where appropriate. The meets will have a theme, sometimes they are freestyle/backstroke or freestyle/fly meet for example. All swimmers will swim at least twice, up to four times depending on age and experience.
It's not a problem to miss a practice, no need to call anyone. We do ask if you are going to miss a meet that you cross your child's name off the meet list. These are posted on the bulletin board at the pool prior to a swim meet. We also have several kids that do other sports at the same time, and that's fine too.
We do have team suits available for purchase, but you do not have to purchase one unless you want to. Click here for more information about all the merchandise that's available. Your child will need to come to practice with an appropriate swimsuit, a towel and googles..
Masks are not required but are an option based on a parent's or swimmer's personal preference. If a swimmer chooses to have a mask we recommend to bring a ziplock type bag to keep your mask dry when they are in the water and not wearing the mask. Parents are asked to remain in the stands if they choose to stay through their swimmer's practice time. Parents whose swimmers are trying out may be on deck during the tryout.
Dolphin swim caps are available for purchase for $10 at the pool. If you'd like other Dolphin swim apparel , including team suits, you can purchase directly from Different Strokes in Livonia.
We also have a store with swimoutlet.com. By using the link below our club will earn a little cash.
